A Fine 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Chinoiserie Jardiniere By Barbedienne
A Fine 19th Century French Gilt Bronze Chinoiserie Planter, Circa 1870–1890. Of rectangular form, the jardiniere is entirely cast in bronze and finished with a deep luster patina, richly decorated with hand-applied gilt-painted motifs depicting exotic birds and flowering branches in the Chinoiserie taste. The body is framed with finely chased and mercury-gilt bronze mounts, including floral corner ornaments, ribbon-tied garlands, and a rope-twist rim, raised on toupie feet above a laurel-leaf frieze base. The piece retains its original metal liner and bears a F. Barbedienne stamp to the foot, attesting to the exceptional quality of its bronze work. A refined example of late 19th century French decorative art, combining Japonisme influence with masterful bronze craftsmanship. 30"X10"X10"
