A 19th-century French gilt bronze and rouge marble mantel clock. The design is influenced by the Neoclassical style, popular during the Empire period.
The clock is surmounted by a gilt bronze sculpture of a lion with its paw on a ball, referencing the famous Medici lions, which symbolize power and grandeur. The case is crafted from richly veined rouge griotte marble, a popular material in 19th-century French decorative arts. The ornate face features gilt Roman numerals and decorative hands. It is also adorned with elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, including intricate leaf and scroll motifs on the base and feet.
