Harvey of Greenock Children Mary, James, Charles, Elizabeth and Anne. \" This composition is based on several of van Dyck's most important works in memory of the English royal family.Firsly \"Charles I of England\", as a fragment of the painting Charles I and Henrietta Maria with their two eldest children, Prince Charles and Princess Mary also known as The great peace, realized in 1632, nowadays in the Royal residences of Windsor Castle (Great-Britain). Secondly, Queen Henrietta Maria probably made in 1632, now in Buckingham palace. Thirdly, The five eldest children of King Charles I, realized in 1637, to be seen in Windsor Castle (Great-Britain).  In this last one, served as example for Harvey’s depiction of the royal children. Here Charles rests his hand on the head of a Mastiff – a dog race that had been guard dog since ancient times, and so should be seen as a protector of the royal children. Oil on canvas.
