Magnificent & Rare 19th C. English Porcelain Centerpiece Retailer’s Mark Daniell

Antique porcelain tazza, comport, or centerpiece bowl dating back to the 19th Century.   It is crafted in a pink ground Sevres style and mounted with elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts.

The piece features a shallow, scalloped porcelain bowl hand-painted with delicate floral sprays within a pink and white ground. The bowl is supported by a figural pedestal base of three intertwined aquatic creatures with their tails coiled around a central shaft.

As a tazza or centerpiece, its primary function was for display or to serve small delicacies, such as fruit or sweets, during formal dining events.

The use of marine motifs, ornate scrollwork, and rich gilding are characteristic of the French Rococo Revival style popular during the Napoleon III period. Items like these were luxurious statements of wealth and taste, often intended to impress guests.

The piece is possibly by Minton, a former major company in Staffordshire pottery. It also bears the retailer's mark for Daniell London underneath.
