Poetro Luis Alvarez Catala (Spanish, 1836-1901)

A detailed 19th Century painting that depicts a gallant courtly scene set in a sumptuous 18th-century style interior by Pietro Luis Alvarez Catala (Spanish, 1836-1901). It features four individuals in elaborate Rococo-era costumes. A central couple appears to be entering or greeting others, while a gentleman in a blue coat bows formally. The room is richly decorated with ornate gold-framed paintings on the walls, a plush velvet sofa, and a gilded side table topped with a floral arrangement. 

The frame is a substantial Baroque gold gilt frame. 

The artist was a prominent Spanish painter who served as the director of the Prado Museum. He was renowned for his technical skill in capturing the delicate textures of silk and lace and for his popular "costume" or "neo-Rococo" paintings that romanticized the high-society life of previous centuries.
