These elegant vessels were traditionally used to serve claret (Bordeaux red wine) in the 19th century and are now highly collectible as decorative and functional pieces. The "Minerve 1st standard mark" on French silver indicates a high purity of .950/1000 silver, superior to standard .925 sterling silver. 
The makers, Tetard Freres, were founded in 1880 by Edmond Tetard (1860-1901), the firm initially specialized in Louis XV-style tableware. Edmond’s success peaked in 1889 when he won the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris. Specializing in tableware, Tétard Frères redefined modern and geometric designs, becoming an international icon alongside Christofle during the interwar period.
