GIUSEPPE AURELI (Italian, 1858-1929)

Watercolor painting depicting a Roman Catholic cardinal dressed in traditional pink (rose) and white clerical vestments. The artwork captures the figure in profile, standing inside what appears to be a church or official building, holding a small book. The cardinal is wearing a white fur-trimmed capelet (mozzetta or pellegrina) over a pink silk or moiré robe, typical formal attire for a high-ranking member of the clergy. 

The piece is attributed to Italian painter, Giuseppe Aureli (1858-1929) and is signed: G. Aureli, Rome.
