H: 26" W: 24" D: 15".Eugène Lepoittevin (31 July 1806 – 6 August 1870), born Eugène Modeste Edmond Poidevin, was a notable French artist recognized for his landscapes, maritime paintings, erotic caricatures, and battle scenes. Born in Paris, Lepoittevin was the son of Nicolas Potdevin, a chief cabinetmaker at the Palace of Versailles, who eventually changed the family name to Lepoittevin.Lepoittevin’s works are housed in numerous museums across France, and he frequently painted scenes set in the fishing village of Étretat. In 2020, he was featured in an exhibition and book, “L’invention d’Étretat: Eugène Le Poittevin, un peintre et ses amis à l’aube de l’impressionnisme,” highlighting his contributions to the dawn of Impressionism.He married twice and had two daughters with his first wife, Stéphanie Anastasie Maillard. Lepoittevin was also a friend of the younger Guy de Maupassant, who later wrote anecdotes about him. Described as kind, cheerful, and full of joie de vivre, Lepoittevin left a lasting legacy in the art world.
